Jordan ~ Urbandale High School Class of 2018

Welcome to Way Back Wednesday!

Not familiar with Way Back Wednesday? Well, it's when I finally blog a session from a long time ago!

Today I'm excited to share Jordan's Senior session from March of 2018!

Senior year is busy and life gets in the way. With academics, sports, family time and various extra-curricular activities it can be challenging to find a day to get senior pictures done. Before you know it the year book deadline is looming!

That's what happened with Jordan. This go-getter hardly had a spare moment to breathe let alone get her session scheduled. So, this Class of 2018 Senior from Urbandale High School had her session ONE WEEK before the yearbook deadline, and the Lord blessed us with a surprisingly nice day in late March with plenty of sunshine and a gentle breeze.

We started Jordan's session at the World Food Prize building in downtown Des Moines with it's grand architecture and beautifully manicured gardens which provided some green shrubbery while the trees were still bare.

Families will often ask me if it's ok to get a quick updated family photo during their son or daughter's Senior photo session and I'm always fine with that. A quick photo or two are easy to work in without taking too much time away from the soon-to-be grad. Families who want multiple looks/locations would need to opt for a separate full session, but a quick updated photo is not a problem. It was nice to get a beautiful updated portrait of Jordan with her mom Juli and sister Cassidy (Urbandale High School Class of 2020).

Side note: I grew up with Juli's sister LeAnn...talk about a small world! That's LeAnn on the right and our dear friend Sheri on the left. #bighair #lotsandlotsofaquanet #pompon #classof1991

From Downtown Des Moines we headed to this beautiful wooded area in Clive. Her gorgeous maroon cold shoulder dress really popped against the neutral tones of the woods. It's like those stepping stones were made just for her to strike a pose.

Next stop was the Urbandale Girls Recreation Association softball fields. Jordan was the catcher for the Urbandale High School girls softball team and they had a fantastic season to wrap up her Senior year, finishing 6th overall in the state for Class 5A!

We wrapped up Jordan's session at my favorite location, Walnut Creek Regional Park in Urbandale. The tall native prairie grasses and wild flowers are beautiful in the spring and summer, and it has a beauty all it's own even in the winter and early spring when the grasses have gone dormant. Little did I know that when I pre-scouted the location earlier in the week that the city would MOW DOWN THE GRASSES literally a day or two later 😬 They do that every spring to allow for fresh growth after the long winter, which I knew, but didn't anticipate the surprise of a mowed field when we got there.

But you know what? It worked.

Once Jordan's photos were edited and ready for viewing, they ordered a stunning 16x20 wood print as well as a gorgeous flush mount album with thick pages for all of the other images that they loved from her session. With softball being such a big part of her life Jordan opted for an image wrap cover showcasing her jersey number, catcher's mit and face mask.

And with an updated portrait of Juli and her daughters we were able to mock up various sizes with a photo of a wall in their living room, to see which size would be most appropriate for their space.
