Indoor Senior Pictures in Des Moines
Last week’s blog featured this beautiful family inside this unique and fun studio space with an industrial vibe in downtown Des Moines, and today I’m excited to feature my first high school Senior session in the same location.
This is Alex, Urbandale High School Class of 2021.
We initially planned on doing Alex’s senior photo shoot outdoors along the creek, but due to high winds we had to reschedule twice (or maybe it was 3 times??). Normally I don’t need to reschedule guy sessions for wind but in Alex’s case with his amazing hair, we didn’t want wind to be an issue. When I presented this studio option to mom she loved the simplicity of the space and the variety it offers, and not having to reschedule again due to weather was a huge plus.
The exposed brick and cinder block wall is the perfect backdrop with plenty of grit and texture for senior guy pictures, with the neutral gray wall providing perfect simplicity to keep the photo clean and simple.
Who said Senior photo sessions can’t be fun?!! Alex is hilarious and has a great sense of humor!
It doesn’t always work out for me to get a photo of mom and dad with their soon-to-be grad, but it’s great when we can.
The loft area of the studio boasts beautiful hardwood floors with the same exposed brick walls and large windows to let in plenty of sun for beautiful natural light pictures. I don’t mind using studio lights when I have to, but natural light is definitely more my photography style and preferred aesthetic.
This was a fun stairway grab a couple of shots, but it was pretty dark....so, Alex’s dad served as my VALS (voice activated light stand) and we used a little flash anyway!
Wall clusters are a fantastic way to display all of your favorite photos on the wall. This mock-up shows how four 24x16 frameless portraits (canvas, metal, wood) would look on a staircase wall.
